this animal owns a smaller animal,
the one with the car got bugs on his windshield.
hunting in central park
‘cause he got laid off and replaced by a cheaper pet.

couldn’t afford rent so he sleeps on the roof.
tried to eat his pet when he ran out of food,
but he knew what was coming and there was help,
pet jumped in the chimney and killed himself.

woke up the next day feeling empty as usual.
tried to think of who he might invite to his funeral.
but nobody knows him since he moved up town,
and lost all his friends in a public bathroom.

covered with syringes, nobody listens.
dancing in a puddle with a missing person.
looking at his feet in a mid-day crisis,
thinking “we don’t want no holy grail.”

goes back home, catches ride with mom,
telephone poles explode in the storm.
so they stopped to get donuts when he spot an old friend,
invites him in to wait out the storm.

in the kitchen, he can see them
pulling out knives and approaching his parent.
so he rushes in the house, attacks “old friend,”
who knocks him out and then his mom is gone.

when he comes to, dials 9-1-1,
but nobody comes so he sneaks upstairs.
mother’s in a glass box filled with water,
head in another box, chemicals pumping.

they give him a shot so when he comes back again,
all that’s left is the face and skin.
these “face masks” all over the house,
where his mother’s body is, he’ll never know.

at the kitchen table, they’ve got new victims,
wearing funny hats, and they’re putting nails through ‘em.
